Life Skills Social Stories - when introducing a skill, it is important to give the students a reason to want to demonstrate the skill, which may be easier when we tell a story that students can relate to. Below you will find a story about each of the five basic skills that can be used as instructional support to engage the student in conversation about the skill. Each Power Point Story can be downloaded by clicking on the name of the skill.

Power Cards - many students use super heros or role models to guide their behavior. These cards allow us to use this motivation as a way to guide the students to demonstrate the behaviors we are trying to reinforce.
5 Point Rubrics - these handouts are designed to create awareness about a student's behavior in relation to a desired scale by increasing the student's self awareness of their behavior. It could be used as a behavior chart to allow both the student and teacher to see the student's behavior throughout the school day. It could also be used as a way to provide the student with visual feedback on their performance of a particular skill and its proximity to the desired behavior.

Consequence Maps - This resource allows the teacher to introduce or reinforce the desired skill being taught with the support of visual decision making tree. It guides the student through the desired skill, how it should look in the classroom and a relevant positive consequence, as well as, alternative behaviors that are not desired, with a subsequent negative consequence. The resource could be presented as a folder game, cut and paste worksheet, or as a whole class instructional tool.
